UP Cop Reinstated After Molestation Charge In 2025 Now Accused of Rape-Murder Against 10-Year-Old
New Delhi: An Uttar Pradesh Police constable was thrashed by hospital staff when he was brought for medical examination at the district hospital in Gorakhpur on Thursday (July 30). The staff were reportedly enraged because the constable, Abhishek Yadav, allegedly "attempted to rape" a ten-year-old girl, leading to her death. Her body was discovered near a river.
Yadav, a 2018-batch constable, was produced in court on Thursday but only after police called in reinforcements to complete his medical examination, the Indian Express reports. Doctors and nurses allegedly attacked him.
The child was returning home from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon after visiting a patient, her sister, when the constable allegedly kidnapped her on a motorcyle. CCTV footage from the area revealed a man in police uniform stalking her. The motorcycle was ultimately traced to Yadav and he is said to have led the police to the girl's body.
Gorakhpur's Senior Superintendent of Police Kaustubh told the media that the process to dismiss Yadav from service has been initiated.
“He does not deserve to be serving in the police force after being involved in such a grisly act. He is a habitual offender… he was jailed in January last year for allegedly molesting a woman and was suspended. He was released on bail and his suspension was revoked in September. He was on duty in the Dial 112 unit,” the SSP told the Indian Express.
The Dial 112 unit is Uttar Pradesh's helpline service for police, fire, ambulance and other emergenices.
The SSP said investigators examined more than 200 CCTV clips to zero in on the alleged perpetrator, said NDTV.
NDTV also reports that a case under the provisions of the National Security Act (NSA) will be initiated against the constable. The report said he had been jailed after the previous molestation charge and suspended from his duties, but the suspension was later withdrawn.
The family of the child had filed a missing persons report with the police, which led to the investigation and Yadav's arrest and the discovery of the body on the morning of the following day.
